2018 empowHER sessions: 8th & 9th grades

Session One

Because You Are OH-SO Worth It:
Healthy Relationships

Dating can be fun and carefree, but being able to tell whether or not a relationship is healthy can be really difficult. Presenters from EVE Inc. will discuss what healthy relationships look like, what makes a relationship healthy, warning signs of teen dating violence and the importance of affirmative consent.

One in three teens in the U.S. will be in an abusive or unhealthy relationship, so we will make sure girls leave this workshop knowing how to spot when something is not right and how to help a friend who might be in an unhealthy relationship. Because no matter what, we know you and your friends deserve healthy relationships!

Erin Roberts is the executive director/CEO of EVE (End Violent Encounters) in Lansing. She has been working in domestic and sexual violence for more than a decade. Erin has a firm belief that at the base of each individual lies the opportunity and strength to thrive and overcome adversity. She and her wife, Sara, live with their two kids in East Lansing.

Leah Davidson is the Volunteer Coordinator for EVE. She focuses on volunteer recruitment to support EVE's mission of ending domestic and sexual violence while also doing prevention and outreach in the community. Her passion for social justice and equality stems from her degree in women’s and gender studies.

She is very excited to work with empowHER again, since she feels that teaching and providing information that will set young women up for success in life is one of the most important things she could do.
