empowHER session 5: self defense

Self Defense: Building Confidence & Resiliency:

Tanya Panizzo

This safety workshop enhances the ability of the students to use knowledge, skill and power to protect themselves from harm, make good decisions and know and understand their worth.

It's also a program enriched with strong self-esteem building components. This session will help build confidence, resilience and teach girls to set boundaries early in life. The best thing about this workshop is it’s taught in an environment where young girls can speak freely, relate to their peers and have fun while learning valuable life skills that will help them as they grow older.

Tanya Panizzo, a survivor of an assault as a teenager, is committed to bringing self-defense training to as many women and children as possible. She holds a rank of fifth-degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do and has earned a blue belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

Tanya founded Fighting Spirit Safety, an organization educating people on violence prevention and protection against abuse. She is a certified radKIDS instructor, creator of the Girls-r-Pearls Teenage Safety Workshop and contributor to the University of Michigan 10-Point Promise to Sexual Assault Survivors. Tanya is driven to help everyone live in a world without violence against women and children.
